Gar Samuelson was an American drummer best known for his work in the thrash metal band Megadeth. He was a founding member of the band and played on their first two albums, "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!" and "Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?". Samuelson's drumming style was known for its technical proficiency and dynamic range.
Samuelson was born on February 18, 1958, in Dunkirk, New York. He grew up in Long Island, New York, and began playing drums at a young age. He joined Megadeth in 1984, along with guitarist Dave Mustaine, bassist David Ellefson, and guitarist Chris Poland. During his time with the band, Samuelson contributed to the development of their signature sound, characterized by fast tempos, complex arrangements, and politically charged lyrics.
Samuelson left Megadeth in 1987 due to personal and creative differences with the other band members. He went on to perform with various other bands, including Fatal Opera and F-5. Tragically, Samuelson passed away on July 22, 1999, at the age of 41, due to liver failure caused by complications from years of drug and alcohol abuse.
Despite his short-lived career, Gar Samuelson remains a legendary figure in the world of heavy metal music, revered for his exceptional drumming skills and contributions to the genre.
